Education: B.A. (Classics) Amherst College, 2012; MPhil (Ancient History) University of Oxford, 2014

Timothy Clark is a PhD candidate in the Program in the Ancient Mediterranean World. His dissertation, Images of the East: Roman Representations of Parthia and Armenia and the Construction of Roman Identity in Ritual, Art, and Coinage, will assess how Roman representations and perceptions of Parthia and Armenia shaped conceptions of Roman identity between the late Republic and Severan period.

Timothy graduated from Amherst College in 2012 with a B.A., magna cum laude in Classics. He completed his MPhil in Greek and/or Roman History from the University of Oxford in 2014. His masters thesis analyzed the Forum Augustum ’s vision for how Roman foreign and imperial policy would function under the Principate.

His research interests are Roman relations with the Near East, especially the Parthians, Armenians, and Sasanians; the use of cities and urban space to disseminate and articulate political ideology across the long history of the Roman empire (Augustan period to late antiquity); religious and cultural pluralism in the eastern Roman empire; the reception of ancient history by modern political actors.
