The Arthur Adkins Summer Research Fellowship

The Arthur Adkins Summer Research Fellowship is targeted at third-year undergraduates who are bound for graduate school. It provides means and opportunity for the writing of a superior research paper on any aspect of the ancient world from the Bronze Age through Late Antiquity.

The Fellowship may be used for travel to classical sites and collections or to other research centers, and/or for living expenses during a summer devoted to research between the third and fourth year.

The Prize is expected to be worth $5,000 this year.

The Fellowship is not limited to majors and minors in Classical Studies nor to students of Greek and Latin. Although it may be used for research abroad, it does not require such research. However, it does require that students have a well-developed research project by the time they apply.

To apply for the Fellowship, please submit to our Administrative Assistant, Kathy Fox, by the Monday of second week of Spring Quarter of third year:

1.

A current copy of your transcript, and

2.

A statement of 2-3 pages outlining your project and its relationship to existing knowledge in the field, and

3.

A plan of research, and

4.

A provisional budget for the summer, and

5.

A letter of recommendation from a faculty supervisor.

The successful applicant must also submit a written report of what they achieved during the Fellowship to the Director of Undergraduate Studies by the first week of Autumn Quarter of fourth year.
